    Hot Topic: Grandma Swag

Ok, maybe it’s just me, but I’ve been noticing a serious increase in the number of geriatrics showing off their dancing skills on the Internet. Therefore, I felt it was my duty to compile a few of the best ones and post them for your enjoyment. I can only hope to be a grandma with this much swag in 50 years. Props ladies…keep kickin it OLD school.  ENJOY… …and dance to Usher with Aunt Carol (as seen on Ellen). …or throw your hands in the ayer.…or Pop, L...

    PlanS

My dad sent me this in an email today, and it’s definitely worth remembering. Seeing as how my family is going through a pretty rough time and I feel like I’m just surviving day by day, this brings me at least a little bit of peace. It’s a devotional written by Michael Raypholtz, and it’s taken out of The Upper Room. Jeremiah 29:11 — “I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you h...

    Hot Topic: PIPA & SOPA

Yesterday, January 18, 2012, many websites including web giants Google, Wikipedia, and Craigslist blacked out their sites in protest of the Protect IP Act (PIPA) and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). It’s difficult to form an opinion if you’re uninformed, so please visit the following websites to learn more about this legislation and how it will affect YOU and YOUR Internet freedom if Congress votes to pass the bills on January 24, 2012. Write to your congressmen and let the US gov...

    Tebow Time

What is it about Tim Tebow that is so polarizing? Either you love him, or you hate him. Or, if you’re like me…you tried your best to resist the urge to hop on #SkipsTebowBandwagon, but ended up falling head over heels for the Broncos quarterback who seems almost too good to be true. Truth be told, I laughed when the Tebow cried after losing to Alabama in the 2009 SEC Championship game, and I was legitimately angry when he won the Heisman. But, in all fairness, I’m a Tennesse...

    2011: Major Memories

2011 has been (by far) the most memorable year of my life. I spent New Years on an island scuba diving, taught in Bangkok, ate fish&chips in London, saw Stonehenge, met up with a friend in Paris, drank beer in Dublin, and made my way home to Tennessee. I moved to North Carolina to be with my amazing man, got a job teaching and coaching at a local middle school, and started my American way of life. I got cancer and came out with nothing but a few scars; I bought a dog and began learning wha...

    When Life Gives You Lemons…

Life doesn’t always go our way. That sure is easy to say, but making the best out of what hand we’re dealt? Now that’s a different story. I don’t know about you, but I’m a habitual plan-maker. I make plans for the weekend, for my next holiday, for next summer…I’m always finding something to look forward to and always doing something to remind myself that I’m in control. I call the shots around here…right? “Ahem,” saith the LORD, &...

    Life in Hickory

✔  North Carolina job?  CHECK. ✔  North Carolina residence? CHECK. ✔  North Carolina drivers license? CHECK. ✔  North Carolina license plate? CHECK. ✔  North Carolina life? DOUBLE CHECK. Well, I’m finally moved in and settling down in the great city of Hickory, North Carolina. It’s pretty much a combination of Cleveland and East Brainerd, and I live on the equivalent of Gunbarrel Road. It’s a great location, really, and my apartment is conveniently right across...

Update: Back to life, back to reality.

It seems as though life has been a whirlwind since I’ve set foot back in the ol’ US of A. I had a pretty bad case of reverse culture shock upon my return, and caught myself crying for about 2 weeks straight for no reason at all. I also found myself slipping in to the grandma routine of watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and then finishing out each night with a good dose of NBA playoff games until 1 a.m. The disillusionment of my homecoming was hard to come to terms with…I ...

  • Dublin, Ireland

Ireland was TOO amazing. The people were friendly, the food was unreal, and the scenery was gorgeous. Pub crawling and bus tours highlighted several days of final bliss before heading back home to the Sates. [Show as slideshow] [View with PicLens] ...

    Bonjour, Paris!

My first impression of France was tragically flawed. It’s a sad story that begins with the fact that I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt while carrying around 100lbs worth of luggage in a land where fashion is god and English signs are nowhere to be found. Hello Paris. Of course it also didn’t help that my internal GPS had a serious malfunction and I ended up completely ruining my Notre Dame rendezvous with Alyssa; that left me in frustrated tears. I found myself siting at a cute li...
